In this month of September, our feature organisation is the Gideon Bible Society. The Gideon’s International has one simple and clearly defined aim: to win men, women and young people for the Lord Jesus Christ. On 1 July 1899, a meeting was called in the YMCA, Janesville, Wisconsin. Although only three men were present - John H Nicholson, Samuel E Hill and Will J Knights One of them said, "If God is in this thing, He will give us a name; let's pray about it." It was Will Knights. One of them after prayer, rose to his feet and said that he had the name of the project they were to start – Gideon’s. He read Judges 6 and 7, which showed several reasons for adopting this name. The proposal that Gideon’s should provide a Bible for every hotel room was adopted by the Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1908. Ever since then the Gideon International has distributed free copies of complete Bibles to hotels and New Testament Copies to schools, on the streets, etc. We pray...
