World Food Day 2017

Today is World Food Day
Related Organisation/Agency: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

World Food Day is a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger. Held annually on 16th October, people from around the world come together to declare their commitment to eradicate worldwide hunger from our lifetime.

Celebrating the creation of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), events are organized in over 150 countries across the world, making it one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar. These events promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all. The focus of the day is that food is a basic and fundamental human right. Yet, in a world of billions, 805 million people worldwide live with chronic hunger, 60% women and almost five million children under the age of five die of malnutrition-related causes every day.

The theme for 2016 was "climate is changing, food and agriculture must too." One of the biggest challenges to food security is climate change and its effects on agriculture.

Many of the world’s farmers and fishermen are struggling to cope with increasing temperatures and weather-related disasters.

The World Food Day 2017 focuses on SDG 2 - Zero Hunger. Follow the discussion in the run up to World Food Day using #ZeroHunger. For more information, visit the World Food Programme website.

In TLF we wish to appreciate all those who have donated in cash and kind over the past 40 days.
We are truly grateful for we believe this is how the Foundation should run not with cap in hand!
Thank God for provision.
We welcome donations in cash and kind. We believe if anyone has food items, provisions that you wish to give out kindly deliver them to our centre in Benin City. For our other collection points in Benin, Port Harcourt, Abraka, Keffi, Ibadan, Enugu, Ughelli, Sokoto, Ilorin, Lagos, Ado Ekiti, Ondo town, Owo, Asaba, Abuja, kindly indicate your interest via email.
TLF channels God's love. We as individuals do not feed on cash and items received but hold them in trust for beneficiaries. Remember the story of Ananias, with his wife Sapphira (Acts 5) whatever you give in TLF was first of all in your hand and you had a choice to give. When you give do not count the cost but enjoy the blessing.
Our beneficiaries, benefactors, members, trustees and volunteers are all free to benefit from what we have in TLF (Acts 4:34-35).
We pray to God for expansion.

Remember our theme for this month is reap and sow.
If for example we want to ensure food security in Nigeria, we have to sow now.
Let us encourage participation in agriculture be it subsistence or commercial.
Let us stand against artificial or genetically modified foods.
Let us be inspired to eat natural and shun junk foods.
If we in this group support the course of this Foundation we welcome you to sow in time, prayers, suggestions, financial donation and otherwise and participation in our programmes.

We will surely reap the good we sow, even to our generations to come in Jesus name, amen.

# TLF stories
Some time ago in September 2017, we heard loud banging on our neighbour's gate and voices of women.
We went out to see what was happening.
We met some women and their children outside, who were actually moving from gate to gate asking for help.
They said they were ready to work, clear grass, wash clothes, do anything just in exchange for food or money.
We do not have such needs in our centre and so we told them.
They said they are street sweepers and have not been paid and do not want to beg or prostitute but to sustain their families.
It was a serious situation. We had barely moved into this new centre and did not have much.
We gave food stuff, encouraged them and told them to feel free to come any time.
They were so grateful and said they will return.
We felt we did not do so much considering their number, but we know Jesus Who multiplied 2 loaves and 5 fish can perform more miracles.
They have still not returned and we have not seen them.
Was it real or a visitation? We do not know.
We have work to do but truly the harvesters are few. We pray to God to send more people.
We celebrate with other individuals, groups and Foundations also helping in their own ways.
We in TLF do our charity and social development in the name of Jesus Christ. We are not in competition, for publicity, popularity or praise. We have our personal endeavours, jobs and families. We believe we are the hands, legs and mouth God uses here on earth. We do what we can and impress or depress no one.
God loves us. TLF

For us in TLF we are going to be focusing on Enterprise aka Labour aka Work for the entire month of June. We are urged to work. If you do not work how would you meet your daily needs? Like food, shelter, clothings and transportation? What about having what to give to others in need? There are so many reasons to work. I know many of us love to do what we love, we do not like to go to work if we do not like the job. But what if what you are doing as work and being paid for is actually what you love? What you love may not turn out to be a source of income, but we must still do what we can to earn. Are you enterprising? Please keep it up. Are you in paid labour in the private or public sector? Please do your work as unto the Lord God. Are you working all by yourself as a self employed worker? Please continue to grow and progress for greatness. Always know that in - Happy moments, praise God.  Difficult moments, seek God.  Quiet moments, worship God.  Painful moments, trust ...

Today is the second part of our D Day for the month of August!

Today is the second part of our D Day for the month of August! Although this celebration is marked in the month of May, we have harmonised all relevant sub-themes dealing with family and youth under this month of August.  15th of May is International Day of Families.  We commend all those individuals, groups, NGOs, Charities, Foundations and others who engage in one form of activity or the other to promote wholesome family life and the true meaning of family.  God bless your labour and work of love. May we not do anything in vain. Remember - Matthew 12:49 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! Psalm 113:Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! You are invited to attend our viewing of - "Loneliness is literally killing us" by Will Wright at TEDxBirmingham . We commend the speaker and give kudos to the organisers. You too can organise such a wonderful event. In TLF we inspire...

Story Time

Lisungu Chieza from Zimbabwe was 26 when she was told in 1996 that she was HIV+. "This started my long journey of coping with being HIV+. My husband died in my arms at home eight months later." Not only did Lisungu have to cope with her own illness and losing her husband, but her husband's family also wrongly blamed her for his death. They came to her house, took away his things, and said, "If those children of yours get sick, don't even call us. We won't have anything to do with them or you." They would not even let her go to her husband's burial. "I gave up a college course I had planned to do. All I thought about was death. I neglected my children and myself." But her mother supported her. Lisungu began to find hope again and joined an HIV support group. Then she started to help others who were also HIV+, and took a college course about HIV-AIDS. She spoke at HIV meetings with the young people in her church. She believes that it is ver...
