Random Comments By Others On The Issue Of Suicide

10 September every year is marked as World Suicide Prevention Day

Cross, a Nigerian entertainer, revealed that he attempted taking his own life twice. Cross, who was speaking on a task titled “Mental health” urged the Nigerian health sector to take the issue of mental health seriously as a means of alleviating suicide attempts. He blamed Nigerian parents for not being serious about their children’s mental health, expressing hope of doing his best when he becomes a father. He said, “I have attempted to commit suicide twice but at the end of the day, I survived it. “I think we need physicians in this country to be serious about the issue. Our parents are not really doing enough regarding talking to children to diagnose their mental health. I will be a father one day, maybe one or two years to come but I just hope that I give my children the best”.

In reaction online, readers commented that:

"All these lies, because he wants people to notice him."
--------
Suicide is NEVER an option. Always make people around you happy cos the Nigeria is enough to make people feel depressed.
--------
He looks happy always and having all his family even his mother in Canada, money no suppose be problem.
--------
Just wondering what could make him try such?
Mental health is something that is rarely taken seriously on this side of the globe.
--------
We have a lot of psychopaths and narcissists walking about, not excluding folks with PTSD, chronic depression, personality disorders, etc.
--------
The worst part is that these individuals are unaware of their nature, making it even harder to seek help.
You hear stories of gruesome murder, and wonder how someone could get the nerve to smith with a kitchen knife.
You forgot to ask if these murderers are actually normal people. Alas, they are always diagnosed with one mental illness or the other.
--------
If they had been confiscated earlier in one mental facility upon diagnose, that would save the society from mayhem.
If you come from a poor home, there's a huge chance you even have one or two mental illness you don't know about.
It could even explain why you're so damn lazy, or why you rarely get things done, or remain focus.
I believe if you understand your mental state, you can achieve anything you put your mind to.
--------
Get a therapist, take care of your mind!
--------
Suicide is not the option no matter what
--------
Don't let it look as if you are the only one that have attempted suicide
--------
Life is worthwhile when there are good memories to cling on to else it's worthless.
--------
death is better than some situations just pray u dont get face wth that kind of situations.

Story Time

Lisungu Chieza from Zimbabwe was 26 when she was told in 1996 that she was HIV+. "This started my long journey of coping with being HIV+. My husband died in my arms at home eight months later." Not only did Lisungu have to cope with her own illness and losing her husband, but her husband's family also wrongly blamed her for his death. They came to her house, took away his things, and said, "If those children of yours get sick, don't even call us. We won't have anything to do with them or you." They would not even let her go to her husband's burial. "I gave up a college course I had planned to do. All I thought about was death. I neglected my children and myself." But her mother supported her. Lisungu began to find hope again and joined an HIV support group. Then she started to help others who were also HIV+, and took a college course about HIV-AIDS. She spoke at HIV meetings with the young people in her church. She believes that it is ver...
