Poem

“I release you”



It is too late to be remorseful

You probably sincerely regret it

You might be biting your lips

And wondering what kind of mess you got yourself in

You think you can make amends by killing yourself to make it even

Or you may want to apologize

- God forbid you may want to offer a sacrifice, pay, whatever, offer up your own child as slave or as a lamb

We all know that would not bring her back

You should have thought of that in the first place

But no you were too caught up in your emotions and wants

With your pent up anger you ordered the commission

You paid the price, you paid the assassins

And you went on paying, trying to cover up your tracks

And save your head, spare your life

- which is priceless to you

Your motives were impure, you didn’t consider

Her children- oh some other kind, or not, woman would care for them

Her siblings- hmm how often do you see them around her, they’ll be fine

Her parents- well they have enjoyed her enough, they have other kids

Her husband- ah a young man he’s marry again and forget her shortly

What nonsense

What warped reasoning

What wickedness

What tainted wisdom and logic

What shame

Who can God say to, “This is my own beloved child, in whom I am well pleased.”

But in the midst of all these:

I release you

From my heart, my mind, vengeance, punishment, condemnation, hatred and yes death. I release you, you are free, you are free from me. i release you to God.

But to you my sister-

I miss you

Story Time

  Lisungu Chieza from Zimbabwe was 26 when she was told in 1996 that she was HIV+. "This started my long journey of coping with being HIV+. My husband died in my arms at home eight months later." Not only did Lisungu have to cope with her own illness and losing her husband, but her husband's family also wrongly blamed her for his death. They came to her house, took away his things, and said, "If those children of yours get sick, don't even call us. We won't have anything to do with them or you." They would not even let her go to her husband's burial. "I gave up a college course I had planned to do. All I thought about was death. I neglected my children and myself."
