TLF joins the rest of the world to celebrate "The International Day of the Girl Child 2026" as observed on October 11th every year. 2026 Theme Interestingly is - "Ending child marriage and investing in girls' rights" A child by most laws around the world is anyone below the age of 18 years. Thus, child marriage would be considered as anyone marrying under the age of 18. Child Marriage is a global issue and 1 in 5 girls is married before the age of 18 (totaling roughly 650 million), with over 12 million girls married every year (1 every 3 seconds). Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest prevalence at 31%! The dire consequences of all these include lack of proper and complete education, and likely early child labour. Girls aged 15–19 are twice as likely as boys to be out of school, training, or employment. Today we joined many physically and online to bid farewell to a great woman who left us at 85. Prof Mrs R. K. Egharevba was one of the early and first donors of TLF when we launched pre-incorporation. Grandma excelled in various fields and was often generous with her cash and kind to various groups. Over the years we have celebrated, visited and prayed for Grandma. The last occasion was sometime earlier this year when we visited the Health Centre she was admitted in but met that she had just been discharged. That would have been one of the last times we'd have had the privilege of seeing her and praying with her. TLF will not forget that we never ever asked Grandma before she herself started donating in cash to TLF. Even when we hadn't opened our TLF account, she'd find someone to send through to us. October Theme usually revolves around issues of Non-Violence, Girl Child, Women's Rights, and allied matters. Our thematic issues for this month is #StopViolence. The issue of violence can spread from domestic issues such as child and spousal violence in the family unit to world issues on violence such as terrorism. But we must realise that both at the domestic level and world level, the child, especially the female child, and women are mostly the victims on the receiving end of all such violence. Violence cuts across several factors. In this month however, as we focus on violence, the prevention thereof and standing against therein, we want to also agitate for the celebration, protection and care of the girl child and women. 2nd October International Day of Non-Violence  We commend all those individuals, groups, NGOs, Charities, Foundations and others who engage in one form of activity or the other to stop violence and bring about justice, truth and fairness. Violence is an underlying symbol of a greater problem and it thus expresses itself with brute force, harm and pain. God bless the labour and work of love of all those standing against violence. May we not do anything in vain. We invite you all to come to the TLF Centre on the 4th Sunday of this month by 4pm for the viewing of the video - Gentleman by Ric Hassani organised by TEDxPortHarcourt some years ago. Welcome to October! May this month bring us open doors, answered prayers, divine favour, peace, good health, restoration and joyful testimonies. May God perfect everything that concerns us, bless the work of our hands, guide our steps and turn our expectations into testimonies. May October be a month of overflowing grace, outstanding breakthroughs, opportunities, triumphs, and divine blessings. May this October be different for us. May we experience God in ways that leave no doubt that He has remembered us, favoured us and gone before us. May our prayers become testimonies and our expectations become realities. Today all over the world, we celebrate World Literacy Day. Know that what we want is, 'Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity.' It has been set aside to encourage formal education. It is our D Day in TLF for our theme #ReLearning. We know that literacy is not just attending school but knowing how to truly comprehend, read and write and behave civilly in the society and even at home. We celebrate all teachers, students and school management. The ultimate kudos go to the parents, wards, NGOs and Charities that sponsor children and wards to school. #ReLearning #September TLF 💚

In TLF we are big on education at all levels. We know that September is a month for the beginning of a new session at all levels. While interruptions may occur at the tertiary level, secondary and primary schools have stable academic calendars. Having experienced tertiary education in University of Benin, University of Ibadan, Afe Babalola University and University of Ilorin not to forget the Nigerian Law School, there is the urgent need to cater for the needs of the tertiary environment - staff and students. We also give special mention to those with businesses, religious centres, visitors and parents of those in tertiary institutions. Take for instance in our theme in September especially, focus is completely on issues of literacy and learning. The role of the tertiary institutions we have in Nigeria cannot be overestimated in terms of charity and social development. The tertiary institution is often seen as the finishing school of every individual who has the opportunity to attend....

MONDAYS - General Counselling and Prayers We would agree that there is an increase in wrong decisions being taken by many with regards life and death when things don't go well. There is a need for group circle meetings where strength can be pulled from likeminded people. It's the same way testimonies of believers help strengthen our faith. Come for counselling and group circle meetings. TUESDAYS - Seminars and Workshops  Based on our monthly theme we have different sub-themes from which we need to address and formulate action plans as a group. These seminars and workshops also provide opportunities to have film shows. The effect of having audio-visual meetings can't be overestimated. Since children are the future, let us adults, relearn all those things that did not help us, and learn new things and methods that can make the next generation better. Children are open tolerning, but what are they learning? What are we teaching them or permitting to enter into their knowledge and awareness? We all have a duty to the next generation.
