Today is for the Girl Child

TLF joins the rest of the world to celebrate "The International Day of the Girl Child 2026" as observed on October 11th every year.

2026 Theme Interestingly is -

"Ending child marriage and investing in girls' rights"
A child by most laws around the world is anyone below the age of 18 years. Thus, child marriage would be considered as anyone marrying under the age of 18.

Child Marriage is a global issue and 1 in 5 girls is married before the age of 18 (totaling roughly 650 million), with over 12 million girls married every year (1 every 3 seconds).
Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest prevalence at 31%!
The dire consequences of all these include lack of proper and complete education, and likely early child labour.
Girls aged 15–19 are twice as likely as boys to be out of school, training, or employment.
On a positive note however, it has been researched that over the last 25 years, legal reforms, education investments, and social protections have helped avert an estimated 68 million child marriages.
Wouldn't you like to join causes that advance girl education and stop girl child marriages? TLF among others are heavily invested in such causes. Kindly visit our Centre or contact us and find your niche among our several programmes aimed at fulfilling these causes.
Thank you.

#NextGeneration Stories

Cherokee Legend Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of Passage? His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone.  He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help from anyone.  Once he survives the night, he is a MAN. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own. The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some humans might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man! Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him.    He had been at watch the entire night, p...

Why Do You Smoke?

6 personalized approaches to quitting forever.  Everyone smokes—and quits—for different reasons, and the key to getting smoke-free for life is to find out why you are smoking and then change those behaviors. If you are a Recreational or Social Smoker, you may feel that your limited smoking poses no serious medical harm to yourself or others. You may, however, ignore warning signs that your occasional smoking is progressing into addiction, especially during periods of stress or increased alcohol use. A periodic review of these warning signs may help motivate you to consider becoming smoke-free. The Scared-to-Quit Smoker has no end of reasons (excuses) to put off going smoke-free to some future date. Sometimes it helps to focus on just quitting for one day. If you can quit for a day, you can quit every day. This realization can be a great confidence builder, and helps to decrease your fears about not smoking “ever again.” Forever is too big a word for many addicts; thus the old adage...
