So there was a time when Africans were forced and carried away via the trans-Atlantic trade to leave their father and motherland and work in the West under terrible conditions.
Slave trade was rife then, legal at a time, then became illegal and eventually abolished.
Many great men and women helped to achieve this.
A number of people have tried to trace their roots back to Africa.
Some have tried to support Africa in several positive ways.
Many have also continued to sensitise generations upon generations on the history of segregation, slavery and trafficking.
However, what's the condition here in Africa?
A vast number of Africans still exist who are willingly trying to find their way to the West.
Some don't even mind going go the East or even war torn countries.
Many just want to leave Africa!
The Africa that had first been termed dark continent by foreigners, of which term has been carried along by Africans themselves, is seen as a place NOT to be if you want to progress and live a decent, functional life.
Nevertheless, the backwardness and problems in Africa are not insurmountable.
We can help ourselves even without foreign aid, because we have the exposure, education, resources, know-how, even the technology needed.
As an aside, a few people ask if TLF has foreign donors? But the question is why can't home based and those of us within support? We too have the resources so why do we always focus on foreign aid and financial support? There are Africans who have the funds and resources to fund poor states and even countries. Their net worth exceed the budget of some states. Whereas we want foreigners to send aid?!
But we lack fundamental needs which include - love, sensitivity, right leadership, dedicated followership and will power!
Now people in Africa don't mind leaving their prestigious white collar jobs in Africa to go and work blue collar or menial jobs anywhere outside of Africa.
Just to be out of the continent!
Would you call it modern slavery or failed system?
